In a few words… The Boondocks

After leaving a friends’s birthday celebration last night, I was taking my customary travels through the streets of Atlanta when I saw the mural above.

If you’re not familiar, it’s a silhouette of Huey Freeman from Aaron McGruder’s The Boondocks. What is so dope about this, even though it’s a “corporate mural,” is that unless you know about The Boondocks, this mural means nothing to you. There are no words, just the silhouette and start date for the new season. Great silent advertising on the side of a corner store in the middle of the city.

From searching Instagram, there is a similar mural in Brooklyn, as well as subway and bus stop ads in NYC and possibly Washington, D.C.

If you’re in Atlanta and want to check it out, it’s on the side of the Southern Food Store at the intersection of Randolph and Irwin Streets in the Old Fourth Ward.
