Doing My Lee Thing: Rules of the Red Rubber Ball

Doing My Lee Thing

On Monday, I went to “CLEVER,”  a free art, performance and insight series revolving around leading innovators, independent thinkers and creative visionaries produced by agency JWT Atlanta. Being that this was my first official day of unemployment and I had promised myself that I’d take a week off to do nothing, I’ll admit that I wasn’t “there” 100% mentally. However, I’m glad I decided to power through and listen to the presentation given by Kevin Carroll.

His message was simple, don’t be afraid to chase your dreams. However, he included a slight twist which really resonated with me –  don’t forget to play. He lays out his personal story and words of inspiration in his book, “Rules of the Red Rubber Ball.”  It’s a quick and playful read that I definitely recommend.

Within he explains the meaning of finding your own “red rubber ball” and having the courage, strength and imagination to follow it. He then he provides seven guidelines to help ensure that you’ll never lose sight of it.

His approach to life helps reaffirm my belief that it’s possible to work hard, achieve success and have some fun along the way. A lot of times the “have fun” part of the message is forgotten or not deemed important. For the life of me, I’ve never been able to understand why.

Life is good. Enjoy it.
