Last Friday evening, I made my way down to the Castleberry Hill Art Stroll. Occurring monthly on every 2nd Friday, the art stroll is a great way to explore one of Atlanta’s most walkable neighborhoods (map), discover galleries and shops, meet some cool people and see great expressions of creativity.
Honestly, I wish I had started my evening earlier because even though I saw some great artwork, I still missed out on a lot! I was able to see two of the Forward Warrior live mural paintings, one on the corner of Haynes and Walker Streets, across from Bottle Rocket, and the other on the side of The Boxcar Grocer at Fair and Peters Streets. However, I missed the third at the Elliot Street Pub, but it’s definitely on my shortlist of things to see.
The highlight of my night was the Steel Wheels and Steel Heels exhibition at the Nelson Street Gallery. Graffiti-laced model trains and stilettos, along with photos and paintings, showcased in a way that can only be connected through art. I had a few train sets as a kid, so I was definitely a bit geeked to see a whole art installation dedicated to them. DJ Speakerfoxxx topped off the evening by keeping the energy high with a dope hip hop set that spanned from coast to coast.
Another great night out in Atlanta! Enjoy the flicks.
