In need of some rest and relaxation, I took a road trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The drive is about 5 1/2 hours from Atlanta. I stayed at the Bay View on the Boardwalk, which worked out well.
Myrtle Beach is often described as a “family tourist trap” and I can definitely see why. Restaurant prices are high and there are more gift shops than you’ll ever need to visit in your life. But I was going to escape the city and find the beach, so with the summer crowds still a few weeks away and plenty of warm weather – I accomplished my mission.
And the fact that I didn’t have to move the car too often was a huge plus! There aren’t too many days where you can operate car-less in Atlanta, so this was much appreciated!
Travel Tip: If you’re visiting Myrtle Beach during the weekend, arrive on Thursday and leave on Monday to partially avoid the backlog at check- in and check-out. I’ve checked in and out of plenty of hotels, but I’ve never seen a human traffic jam as congested as I did here! Safe travels.
